چکیده
Drawing on the quantitative datasets of Electronic Arts’ FIFA 20 top 100 players and their qualitative descriptors, paper addresses following: (1) How do ideas race manifest influence digital worlds? (2) football simulations (games) disrupt or reproduce racialised stereotypes logics found within in social world? (3) does playing video games contribute to users’ understandings sport. This paper, first in-depth study its kind, provides new empirical insights into presence ‘natural athlete’ discourse operative that underpin White Black player performances 20. We conclude is a site for potent experiential socialisation myths, where gamers come know racialized other sport through feeling differences procedurally generated natural athlete quite literally controllers.

The hydraulic jump as a white hole
In the geometry of the circular hydraulic jump, the velocity of the liquid in the interior region exceeds the speed of capillary-gravity waves (ripplons), whose spectrum is 'relativistic' in the shallow water limit. The velocity flow is radial and outward, and thus the relativistic ripplons cannot propagate into the interior region. In terms of the effective 2+1 dimensional Painlevé-Gullstrand ...
متن کاملRace and the Digital Divide
In recent years, a plethora of public and private programs in the United States have been created to close the “Digital Divide.” Interestingly, however, we know very little about the underlying causes of racial differences in rates of computer and Internet access. In this paper, I use data from the Computer and Internet Use Supplement to the August 2000 Current Population Survey (CPS) to explor...
متن کاملSigni cant Lexical Relationships
We describe a test that can be used to accurately assess the significance of a population model from a data sample using freely available software. We apply this test to the study of lexical relationships and demonstrate that the results obtained using this test are both theoretically more reliable and diierent from the results obtained using previous approaches.
متن کاملInjuries in professional footballers.
The incidence of injuries in footballers is described. Nearly half of footballer's injuries involve the knee, with vertical tearing of the meniscus being common; surgical intervention may be required. Approximately one third of injuries involve the ankle, and will often require immobilisation. Other injuries include muscle damage, spondylosis of L4 or L5, concussion, and dislocations. The impor...

Statistical NLP inevitably deals with a large number of rare events As a consequence NLP data often vio lates the assumptions implicit in traditional statistical procedures such as signi cance testing We describe a signi cance test an exact conditional test that is appropriate for NLP data and can be performed us ing freely available software We apply this test to the study of lexical relations...
